  • Are you working in social or educational field?
  • Are you working with underprivileged communities?
  • Do you want to learn new techniques to improve your skills from international experts?

Academy for Actors of Social Change focusing on Artivism is a 14-day international training aimed to develop the skills of professionals working in the fields of youth education, social and creative practices.

The professional workshops are based on the theatre of the oppressed, the devised process, community, and socially sensitive theatre methods.

During the program, the participants can gain an insight into a unique blend of socially engaged art techniques developed by experts throughout years of practising and teaching within the field of socially engaged arts.

The program reflects current social, economic and environmental changes. It helps participants to process their feelings, thoughts and experiences related to this. Through Artivism, it gives them tools to express themselves and be active, conscious participants in the changes.

The program has four main topics: inclusive societies, equality of all genders, environmental protection and art. The overarching theme is activism, various ways of involving people in art and using it as a tool for social change.

During the two-week program, the participants will get to know the world of theater that works in an intimate puppet theatre format, which can be performed in small spaces, even in living rooms. They will learn how to work with artistic tools and help women and young girls who suffer discrimination; how to cooperate with communities and even educational institutions using environmental education theatre tools; how to initiate intercultural and intersectoral dialogue in society, encourage the creativity of young people through art education, production of cultural contents and improvement of public policies in the field of culture and youth.

During the training, the participants will also have the opportunity to get to know the diverse artistic and pedagogical methodologies of experts working with disadvantaged groups. The structure of the program is workshop-based, allowing the participants to not only learn the theory but experiment and try out practical skills and techniques as well.

Throughout the Academy you will not only expand your professional skillset, but also get the chance to meet other enthusiastic yet rigorous experts, and as such become a part of a wide, supporting professional network.

For participants from V4 countries and Serbia:

With the support of the Visegrad Fund, there is a special opportunity for participants from V4 countries – the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and additionaly from Serbia – to implement their own Artivism pilot program alongside participation in the Academy. We will have an online open day with an Artivism expert, followed by a workshop at the Academy with our V4 partners. From the submitted pilot ideas, we will select the pitch work – one from each country – which will be implemented by the participants after the Academy with the mentoring support of the partner organisations and the financial support of the Visegrad Fund. The project will end with a conference where the idea implementers will present their work.

*If you have an idea, apply! In the comments section, please outline your project idea, but it’s fine if it takes shape during the Academy*

The language of the Academy is English.

The program takes place in Budapest, Hungary, from 1 to 16 July.
