Open call for the artistic residencies in Poland and Tanzania

The ART TRANSPARENT Foundation (Wrocław, Poland) and Nafasi Art Space (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania) are pleased to announce a call for artists.

We are pleased to inform an open call for the artistic residencies in Poland and Tanzania is closed. We got 142 submissions (48 from Europe and 94 from Africa). Results of the call for artists will be announce in the end of September.

Call for artist organised in cooperation of the ART TRANSPARENT Foundation (Wrocław, Poland) and Nafasi Art Space (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania) is a part of the project “Deconfining Arts, Culture and Politics in Europe and Africa”.

As part of the project “Deconfining Arts, Culture and Politics in Europe and Africa”, the ART TRANSPARENT Foundation (Wrocław, Poland) and Nafasi Art Space (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania) are pleased to announce a call for artists. We are looking for artists working with video art to participate in research residencies and to develop new moving image works.

DECONFINING is a four-year EU-funded project bringing together cultural practitioners, artists, policy makers, and audiences from two continents – Europe and Africa. Dedicated to contributing to a better understanding of (social, political and economic) confinement patterns from different viewpoints, the project aims to explore and develop new ways of intercontinental artistic and cultural (policy) cooperation and provide better access and information for intercontinental mobility and co-creation. ART TRANSPARENT and Nafasi Art Center are inviting applications from artists to take part in the project Deconfining. Our cooperation aims at fostering relations between artists and cultural professionals in our regions through residencies, production of new moving image works and their presentation and dissemination in the partner countries. We are looking for artists working with the moving image (for example, video, animation, film, digital and found footage, etc) who are willing to develop a new artwork within the framework and parameters of this project.

For whom:

    • Artists working with moving image with documented artistic experience (works, exhibitions, projects, etc)

    • Coming from or based in Czechia, Hungary, Kenya, Poland, Rwanda, Slovakia, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia

    • Artists with working knowledge of English

What do we offer:

    • research residency in Tanzania for artists coming from Europe (1-2 week long)

    • Research residency in Poland for artists coming from Africa (1-2 week long)

    • Connection with experts in the chosen field of research

    • Chances to meet the partners’ artistic community through networking events and presentations

    • Production budget for creation of a new moving image work

    • Presentation of the work in Wroclaw and Dar es Salaam

What do we require:

    • availability to travel for research residencies (artists from Europe to Tanzania in January 2024; artists from Africa to Poland in June 2024)

    • Capacity to create a moving image work according to the agreed upon timeline

    • Proven experience

    • The working language of the project is English so communicative knowledge of this language is necessary. (The moving image works can be created in participants’ languages.)
