The 11th edition of the SURVIVAL Art Review is in progress. The last three days in Xawery Dunikowski Boulevard were intensive. As part of this year’s SURVIVAL, two special events outside the main area of the Review have been planned, as well as a vernissage and a lecture in the seat of the ART TRANSPARENT Foundation.

Tomorrow at 6 p.m. we will venture near the ‘Black Stream’ pond, where Michał Smandek’s installation ‘Nothing More, Nothing Less’ will be unveiled.
The work will be displayed in an old river bed of the Oder, which is called Black Water or Black Stream (German: Schwarzwasser). It is based on glass forms – aquaria, placed by the artist in the pond, which use the physical properties of water – buoyancy and pressure – to create an arrangement of water solids without adding or removing anything. In accordance with the artist’s intentions, the amount of water will always be identical, only its shape will change.
Michał Smandek – born in 1981. He comes from Silesia. In 2007 he graduated with honours from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Silesia, Workroom of Sculpture. He is interested in sculpture, installation, land art and video. He looks for inaccessible places where he creates small installations, documents them and abandons so that they deteriorate. He is of the opinion that all kinds of matter and all spaces are suitable for sculpture, but it depends on the method of creation, the idea, and the chosen form.
