The exhibition at Galeria Szewska, part of the 15% Abstraction series, continued Art Transparent Foundation’s efforts to highlight the work of pioneering women artists from the local visual arts scene who co-created the Wrocław Group. It revisits figures such as Hanna Krzetuska, Wanda Gołkowska, Krzesława Maliszewska, Anna Szpakowska-Kujawska, and Maria Michałowska.
The works and artistic stances of these senior-generation artists have, in recent years, been interpreted by a younger group of women artists currently living and working in Wrocław: Justyna Baśnik, Karolina Szymanowska, Karina Marusińska, Agnieszka Sejud, Anna Kołodziejczyk, and Daniela Tagowska. Their joint presentations were hosted at the Geppert Apartment Gallery on Ofiar Oświęcimskich Street 1/2—the very place where the Wrocław Group was formed and where its members regularly gathered.
The exhibition at Galeria Szewska includes photographic documentation of artworks featured so far in this intergenerational series of meetings between Wrocław-based women artists.
The next installment in the series at the Geppert Apartment Gallery is the exhibition It warms without burning, featuring works by Janina Żemojtel and Karolina Freino. In this show, depictions of the body emerge from abstract imagery, evoking themes of intimacy, closeness, and desire. Although separated by generations and differing artistic approaches, the two artists engage in a dialogue—rooted in suggestion and subtlety—that explores the limits of bodily representation and the traces of emotion. The exhibition ran from November 15 to December 13, 2024.
It was accompanied by the research forum White Spots Exist Until We Notice Them, dedicated to senior women artists from Wrocław. The forum took place on November 16, 2024, at the Geppert Apartment Gallery. A video recording is available on our YouTube channel and in the related post.
