In recent days, the topics of community, mutual understanding, and the ways we perceive people with different life experiences have become especially relevant. These are precisely the issues explored in the exhibition Clinic of Collective Representations.

Join us this Friday (31 July) at 3:00 PM for a curator-led tour with Magdalena Basak, co-curator of the exhibition. The tour will offer an opportunity to explore works by artists addressing stereotypes, migration, exclusion, and empathy, while reflecting on how culturally rooted representations shape our everyday relationships.

For Magdalena Basak, everyday life is where our relationships, gestures of care, misunderstandings, and encounters with others unfold. It is in these ordinary situations that the values, beliefs, and mechanisms influencing our ability to build trust, safety, and mutual respect become visible.

Collaboration and attentiveness to others are at the heart of her curatorial practice. This tour will therefore be more than an introduction to the exhibited works—it will be an invitation to reflect together on what can help us better understand ourselves, one another, and the world around us.

During the tour, we will stop at Disintegration, an installation by Belarusian artist Anastazja Rydlevskaya, which reflects on the experience of living as a migrant in Poland. We will also discuss Karolina Balcer’s work exploring the mechanisms and consequences of labelling people in public space, as well as Ewa Dąbkowska’s work, which encourages attentiveness to the world and to other living beings.

We will also explore Flying Carpet, an installation created by Iza Rutkowska in collaboration with a local design community in Ghana. The work reflects on migration, interdependence, and the possibility of unlearning simplified ways of seeing the world that make building community more difficult.

The tour will also include Phantom, a sculpture by Joanna Pawlik, It reflects anyway…, a video by Kuba Stępień, and A Fairy Tale About Banks, an audio work by Agnieszka Wolny-Hamkało.

The tour will provide space for conversation and collective reflection on how communities are formed and how the representations embedded in culture shape our everyday lives.

Getting There

The exhibition takes place in the former Department of Psychiatry and Neurology at 44 Bujwida Street in Wrocław. After World War II, the building that now houses the gallery was home to the Department of General Chemistry.

The venue is easily accessible by tram. Take lines 9, 12, or 13 and get off at Grunwaldzka stop on Sienkiewicza Street, next to the Kredka and Ołówek student residence halls.

You can also arrive by car, although parking spaces in the area may be limited. The nearest designated accessible parking space (P-20) is located at 5/9 Czerwonego Krzyża Street.

About the Guide

Magdalena Basak is a curator, cultural studies researcher, and strategist for the promotion of cultural and artistic events.

She is deeply interested in everyday life. She believes that paying close attention to the ordinary allows us to recognize the forces that shape society and culture—or emerge from them—on a broader scale.

Rather than seeking answers exclusively in grand narratives or spectacular events, she is drawn to the ways people navigate everyday life: what fosters a sense of safety, trust, and agency, and what undermines it. She sees human beings as fundamentally relational rather than isolated, which is why she is particularly interested in the relationships we form, the choices we make, and the everyday situations that often go unnoticed.

It is from this attentiveness that her curatorial and research questions emerge. Observing everyday life guides the books she reads, the phenomena she seeks to understand, and the themes she explores through art. She is interested in tracing the sources of intentions, beliefs, and patterns of behaviour in order to better understand how we collectively shape the reality we inhabit.
