“What The Eye Doesn’t Know “
1.12 – 15.12.2017
opening: 1.12.2017 at 6.00 pm
Mieszkanie Gepperta, Wrocław (Polska)

The exhibition unveils what is hidden under the surface of everyday reality – this what is going on behind the TV screen, dirty bus windows, and steamy glass lenses, behind our backs and in our anxious heads. The exhibition consists of two elements completed during a residential stay in Birmingham. Both discuss the statement: it is good to see and know more.

The first one is the result of a social project entitled “Good Visibility”, conducted in West Bromwich neighbourhood. The project intended to activate the local community, to encourage participation in social and cultural life, and to realise the real possibility of change in the closest surroundings. During numerous workshop sessions the participants shared, till then hidden, aspirations and dreams of a better world – the world they would like to see outside their window. An installation was made from the stained glass window panes they created. The stained glass is a colourful filter on the grey reality.

The second part consists of documentation of an artistic project entitled “Viewpoint”. In an open space in Birmingham, the author installed a curtain characteristic for the surrounding industrial plants. This curtain subtly distorted the designed frame. This work refers directly to one of the biggest social hazards nowadays, namely fake news. We live in a world of post- truth which is driven by ever more subtle manipulation of pictures, in the world of global trust crisis.
