The DemArt IICCA program aims to democratize the practices of funding and commissioning artworks by involving local communities and addressing their cultural needs. The project seeks to draw the attention of local government units and other cultural institutions to the needs of the communities they serve.
As part of the project, we selected three commissioners, who in turn chose three artists, with the goal of awarding one of them funding to create a site-specific artwork for the Brochów district. The final selection of the artist and the commissioned artwork will be made by a group of local residents who apply through this open call. IICCA will provide the necessary training, budget, and professional guidance throughout the entire process.
DemArt is an abbreviation of the international project title:
Democratising art commissioning by involving local communities.
Commissioners are individuals whose role is to mediate the process of art commissioning. Their responsibilities include understanding the needs of the local community, formulating an art commission, and supporting residents in commissioning a work of art.
IICCA stands for the International Institute for Community Art Patronage, a network of organizations from Lithuania, Hungary, and Poland.
