→ Ceramics in Wrocław’s Urban Space – A Neglected Symbol of the City
The debate highlighted another gap in Wrocław’s cultural policies: a lack of municipal support for ceramic works in public space. This applies to iconic local artists such as Anna Malicka-Zamorska and broader projects like the ceramic mural in the pedestrian underpass at Plac Dominikański, created by the Academy’s Department of Ceramics in 2016. Despite its importance, no consistent municipal support or conservation funding has been secured. Responsibility has been taken on privately by individual staff from the Academy’s ceramics department.
→ Wrocław – An Underappreciated Hub for Glass and Ceramics in Poland
Wrocław could be recognized as a national and European center for glass and ceramics. Its Academy of Art is the only one in Poland with a dedicated Faculty of Glass and Ceramics, home to major figures like Prof. Zbigniew Horbowy, Krystyna Cybińska, Irena Lipska-Zworska, and Anna Malicka-Zamorska. The region’s proximity to glassworks fostered a postwar boom in unique ceramics. Today, Wrocław hosts Poland’s only private gallery dedicated to this form, and works by these artists are widely respected and sought after.
